Do you feel a stir inside to follow God’s call leading you towards a fresh challenge? Would you be interested in joining Abiding Savior on an intergenerational trip to El Salvador ? Come see what God has in store for you! Abiding Savior has a unique opportunity to partner with Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Chicago, with Pastor’s Kristian and Anna-Kari Johnson, to journey to San Salvador July 31 – August 7, 2023. Here is a little taste of what we are going to be involved with:
- Share God’s love with children
- Give medical/dental care (nurses, doctors, and dentists/hygienists encouraged)
- Visit rural congregations serving resettled refugees
- Build homes and churches
- Participate in a U.N. peace process
- Help rural families without electricity get solar light
- Deliver medical supplies, computers, and donations

- Pray and ask God for guidance.
- Contact Pastor Ryan at Abiding Savior with questions and for registration forms to secure your spot.
- Submit a $250 deposit by March 1, 2023.
- Obtain a passport whose expiration date is no earlier than March 2024 and talk to your doctor about recommended vaccinations.
Who: All ages! If younger than 9th grade by next fall, then you must be accompanied by a guardian/parent.
When: July 31 – August 7th, 2023
Where: El Salvador in Central America
Costs: Housing, meals and transportation is $625, shared group expenses $350 and flight (roughly $800). Total cost is approx. $1,775 (before fundraising). There will be many fundraising opportunities with a projected goal of fundraising $10,000 for the group going.
FAQ’s
- Do I have to speak Spanish fluently? No! Many people going speak Spanish and we will have translators.
- I feel like I am too young/old to go and won’t be of any help? All ages are welcome and there will be opportunities for everyone young and old of many abilities. It’s a great opportunity to use whatever gifts you might have.
- Is El Salvador safe to travel to? The short answer is, yes, El Salvador is quite safe for tourists. We will, however, adhere to strict safety guidelines and rules adopted by the leaders of this trip who have successfully taken groups every year for the last 19 years.
- Will my efforts actually do anything? Aren’t mission trips just poverty tours to appease guilt? Would you consider bringing light to a child with solar so that they can read and do their homework, or building a house or feeding the hungry ? You will hear firsthand from those whose lives are changed!
