We began building our vegetable garden in 2014 to help support our local food shelf (Ralph Reeder). We started with a small plot on the southeast side of our church property and raised 285 pounds of food that first year. In 2015, we revamped a bit and increased our production to 340 pounds, in 2016 over 408 pounds, and in 2017 we have harvested over 542 pounds of vegetables! Our current Gardens are ‘adopted’ by families or individuals who maintain the plot all summer.
The goals of the garden group are to:
- Use the gifts of land, sunshine, and other resources God has given us to grow healthy food to share with our neighbors in need.
- Gather a group of interested gardeners in fellowship.
- Engage our congregation through awareness of our garden as an outreach in our community and solicit their continued support for this important mission.
- Be a visible example of “God’s Work, Our hands”.
