Time and Talent Survey

Because many hands make light work and because we are a congregation actively serving our members and greater community, we are asking each member of Abiding Savior (including our youth!) to complete a Time and Talent survey.

We all have been blessed with the talent and skills entrusted to us by God. God asks us to use these spiritual gifts to God's service, for our church home and to help our neighbors. The following ministry areas will help you identify talents and skills where you can share in the mission of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. Please note that you can volunteer as much as you like for any area you are interested in. For example, if you would like to read scripture during services, you can offer to read monthly, quarterly, or once a year.

Adult Education:

Provide ideas for speakers/forums

Organize and plan small group discusions

Assist with library

Children's Ministry:

Serve as teacher, substitute or helper with Sunday School

Serve as Kid's Time group leader during sermon time of worship

Assist with Wednesday evening 4 yr old - 1st grade groups

Assist as leader, group guide, helper or prep work at VBS

Plan and assist with Family Ministry events

Volunteer in the Nursery during worship services

Assist with special events (Family Sunday School, First Communion class, etc.)

Prepare baptismal 'birthday' cards for the Cradle Roll Ministry

Youth Ministry:

Volunteer at or assist with driving for Youth events

Assist with fundraising for youth projects (cinnamon roll baking and sales, etc.)

Transport aluminum cans to recycling center (vehicle with hitch required)

Serve on Youth Committee

Fellowship:

Assist with Wednesday Night Suppers (Sept - May)

Deliver Wednesday Night Suppers to shut-ins

Assist with Funeral Luncheons

Help with Sunday Brunch one a month (Sept - May)

Volunteer to bring food/desserts for events (as needed)

Assist with shopping and prep for events

Clean up Coffee House on Sundays after Adult Forums

Serve as dish washer for events

Clean tables after events

Work prior to and during the annual Smorgasbord

Help with Young at Heart events

Property:

Thursday Morning Work Crew (2nd & 4th Thurs.)

Help cut grass & maintain lawn

Assist with light landscaping

Youth service projects (yard work, clean up, etc.)

Remove snow from sidewalks

Assist with painting

Volunteer as 'handyman' for various projects around the church

Specialized trade skills (electrician, carpenter, etc.):

Worship:

Serve as rotating usher (9:00 or 11:00 service)

Serve communion (9:00 or 11:00 service)

Acolyte at 9:00 service (Youth)

Advance slides for PowerPoint presentation (9:00 or 11:00 service)

Serve as Sound/Technology person - training provided (9:00 or 11:00 service)

Read scripture (9:00 service only)

Greet worshipers (9:00 or 11:00 service)

Participate in musical groups (choir, handbells, instrumental)

Serve on Altar Guild (change paraments, set up communion, etc.)

Assist with Sanctuary Arts (decorating, etc.)

Caring Ministry:

Be a member of the Prayer Chain

Knit or crochet prayer shawls

Make baptismal blankets

Make cards for the Card Ministry

Drive people to/from church events

Visit members at nursing homes

Evangelism:

Serve as a sponsor for new members

Assist with planning events that reach out to neighborhood (Family Fun Night)

Participate in local parades to promote Abiding Savior

Provide ideas for 'marketing' our church and our missions to the greater area

Help with annual smorgasbord craft & bake sale

Health Ministry:

Promote wellness within our congregation

Help educate and understand health concerns

Connect individuals to health resources

Call and visit those needing support

Assist with quarterly Blood Drive events

Mission Outreach:

Serve as delivery driver for collected items (daytime hours)

Serve as driver for Meals on Wheels (1 week per quarter)

Participate in Community Support Center walk to prevent homelessness (summer)

Assist with Garden of Grace (spring/summer/fall)

Assist with Coat Drive (October)

Write grant applications

Assist with general outreach projects

Growing Through Loss volunteer

SnackPack helper (school year months)

Be a part of the Quilting Ministry (cutting, sewing, tying)

Office Help:

Answer phones

Help assemble monthly Vinebranch newsletters

Light clerical work

Help with specialty mailings

Assemble weekly bulletins and inserts

Office organization

Leadership:

Serve on short-term task force

Serve on Nominating Committee (fall-January)

Serve on Audit Committee

Serve on Church Council

Stewardship:

Help celebrate what God is doing at/through Abiding Savior

Provide an understanding of the meaning of stewardship and generosity

Brainstorm ideas, plan and implement theme for annual Stewardship campaign

Lift up opportunities for volunteering in our congregation

Assist in encouraging people to tell their stories of sharing for the campaign newspaper, newsletters, mission minutes, etc.

Develop a method for surveying the congregation for ways they can serve their church family
