Our theme for our Wednesday evening Lenten services this year is Awaken Our Senses. Each Wednesday we will be looking at one of our five senses: Sight, Hearing, Smell, Taste and Touch.
Have you ever thought about the senses and how amazing they really are? What a wonderful gift from God! Our senses help us to navigate through life keeping us safe from danger, helping us to communicate with each other, guiding us as we learn and grow. Through the senses we are also able to experience the many wonders and joys of God’s great creation. Through the senses we get to know God as God reveals God’s self to us. We can see, hear, touch, smell, and taste God in this life.
The senses trigger memories of loving relationships and experiences that are gifts from God. The senses fill us with firsthand knowledge of the existence of God in our world and the presence of God in our lives. And not only do we experience God through our senses, we also use those senses to offer our worship and praise to God. In worship we sing hymns, we taste the Lord’s Supper, we touch the waters of baptism, we smell the burning incense, and we hear the Word of God. Our senses touch every part of our lives and all of our relationships. Our senses help us to know God and God’s creation. We use our senses to respond to the many blessings of God as we worship and praise God’s name.
Please join us for our midweek Lenten worship services at 4:00PM and 6:30PM beginning with Ash Wednesday on March 5 and continuing through Wednesday, April 9. A delicious soup supper will be served during services each week with proceeds benefiting special ministries.
